Post #4: TIL, National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs)

Today I learned about the Nation Patient Safety Goals or NPSGs. The NPAGs are rules put in place to reduce the risk of preventable things from happening when dealing with patient care. These goals were enacted in 2003 they were established to help accredited organizations address specific areas of concern in regard to patient safety. The NPAGs is overseen by the Joint Commission. The Joint Commission is made up of several different medical professionals that work in different medical professions. The goal of The Joint Commission the goal is to promote specific improvements in patient safety with the data provided by the Sentinel Event Advisory group. The Sentinel Event Advisory group reviews a pool of evidence-based, cost-effective, and practical recommendations for addressing the problems that the data the Sentinel Event Database supplies. The NPSGs apply only to those health care providers who deal directly with that type of care. These goals exist to help and try to prevent errors in medical practice and overall save lives.
